About Cary Art Studio

Each technique tells its own story

Meet Maggie Kehoe

Hi, I’m Maggie Kehoe, founder and instructor at Cary Art Studio.

After retiring in 2014, I began exploring various art techniques — pottery, mosaics, traditional acrylics, watercolor, colored pencil, and pan pastels. When my daughters attended Sterling Montessori, I volunteered in the art room and discovered how much I love teaching and inspiring others through creativity.

Later, I stumbled upon Acrylic Fluid Art on YouTube — and it changed everything. The movement, the unpredictability, and the colors instantly captured me. I found a medium that blends my love for experimentation with my passion for teaching.

Now, I bring all that experience together to help others create stunning, one-of-a-kind art pieces — even if they’ve never painted before.

What Is Fluid Art

Acrylic Fluid Art is a technique that uses flowing paints to create vibrant, abstract designs. Each piece is unique — no brushes, no pressure, just pure creativity.

It’s relaxing, fun, and endlessly rewarding. Techniques include:

Flip Cup
Cloud Pour
Swipe
Sun Coaster
Traveling Ring Pour
Dip Technique

Students also learn to paint functional art — such as coasters, ornaments, and vases — transforming everyday objects into beautiful gifts or home décor.

About the Studio

Cary Art Studio is located in Maggie’s bright, private home studio in Cary, North Carolina.
Classes are kept small — limited to four students — to ensure everyone receives personal attention and has time to enjoy the process.

Each class includes:

  • All artist-quality supplies (Amsterdam, Golden, and Liquitex paints)

  • Two canvases per student

  • Gloves, aprons, and all materials

  • A printed handout with paint recipes and recommended materials

  • A bonus mini-project (like Christmas ornaments) if time allows

A typical 3-hour class looks like this:

1:30 – 2:00 PM – Introduction to Fluid Art, paint mixing, and demo painting
2:00 – 3:00 PM – Create your first painting with guided instruction
3:00 – 3:45 PM – Review, learn from your process, and make your second painting
3:45 – 4:30 PM – Optional bonus: make ornaments with leftover paint & clean up

Each class is relaxed, supportive, and full of “happy accidents” that make fluid art so rewarding.
